We hope you have been counting down to Christmas with us! Our family is already thoroughly enjoying our many different count down traditions. Under our tree you will find 24 (actually 21 now) wrapped books. Our children take turns opening one each day and we read it together as a family. They also get to open a little special surprise each morning that awaits them at their spot on the dining room table. Matthew and I look forward to counting down with our evening tea. 24 Days of Blogmas - 2019

Happy December Day! That’s right, it’s the first day of December. This year, we thought it would be fun to help you all count down to Christmas, so get ready for 24 Days of Blogmas!

There may still be 24 days til Christmas but there are only 19 days left until Sugar Island Christmas Co.  We are doing things a little differently this year. Instead of being open every weekend leading up to Christmas, we have decided to try something new. For our 2019 season we will be open December 20th through December 24th, 5 days straight, from 5:30pm – 9:00pm each night. 

Come on over to the farm for some good family fun! We are still bringing you all the favorites from last year; Hay Ride, Santa, Kids activities, Hot Chocolate, Shopping, etc.  But we’ve also added many new games this year!  During Blogmas, we plan on giving you a sneak peak of some of the new attractions, so stay tuned!

Nursery Day!

This cute bunch of fluff has graduated from the maternity suite to the nursery! This is always an exciting day. It means our babies are getting older and that means we get to play and interact with them more! As you’ll see by the video, they weren’t quite sure about everything and it took them a little while to warm up to the new space. But trust me, it wasn’t long before they were bouncing off the walls!

Our nursery is located right in our main living space. This affords them with an appropriate sized room that is just right for them as they are learning all the skills necessary to be a successful kitten. But with the way we have designed it, they get to hear and see all the goings on of the house. This makes their transition much smoother! With the plexiglass walls, they get to see out and we get to see in ALL. DAY. LONG. To say that I get a little distracted by all the cuteness is a major understatement! I could literally watch them 24/7. It never gets old.

Kitten Personality 101

I get asked pretty frequently about kitten personalities, so I thought it would be helpful to try and elaborate more on that here. I am certainly not claiming to be an expert and what follows below are only my observations. As with anything, there can be exceptions to the rule but I have yet to see it. The ‘rule’ being, that Maine Coons are the silliest, sassiest, chattiest, friendliest, most out going, playful, best pet you’ll ever have cat!

In my opinion, as kittens grow, their personalities go through several different developmental stages.

The first stage is from about 3-5 weeks of age. During this time, their main interest is in their mother and siblings. They will acknowledge you and see what you are about but they would much rather play with one another.

Stage 2 is usually from about 6-8 weeks, where they become much more interested in their environment. During this time they love to explore. EVERYTHING is new and scary and fun and WAY more interesting than a person. Curiosity is through the roof, they are on high alert and may come across shy or flighty. Not to worry though, once they feel comfortable and safe in their surroundings, they have entered the final stage.

Stage 3, now YOU are far more interesting and worthy of their time and attention. Be ready for long couch snuggles, extended play sessions and a new shadow under your feet!
